Learning from our documentation processes
M.Sc students, "Innovacion Agraria para el Desarrollo Rural"
Universidad Agraria La Molina, Lima, Peru

What follows is the analysis made of several documentation processes started in different parts of Peru during the past two years. These documents (written in Spanish) were presented as part of the documentation course which is part of the M.Sc. programme implemented at the agricultural university in Lima, Peru.
Learning from my mistakes
As one of the students of the university course, Liz Calderon was asked to carry out a first documentation exercise. She decided to look at a broad rural development project carried out in the region where she lives, and did a quick exercise, just in time to be ready. Looking back at it, she reflects on what went right and what was not too good. She now recognises the need of a better analysis.

Lessons learnt?
In a similar way, Christian Candela looked at two training projects which took place in the same area, one of them focusing on livestock management, the other on potato production. Carried out between 2004 and 2007, these gave him sufficient material to write about. As part of the course, he also had to look back at his work, and analyse it thoroughly. "Producing a short and concise text does not mean that this has to be incomplete."

Analysing my own documentation process
Jenny Choque writes about the documentation process which was carried out in Puno, in Peru's southern highlands, and which aimed to describe and analyse an adult education programme. Her analysis of her own work convinced her of the advantages of a documentation process, as one which can help share the lessons learnt.

Systematization of the systematization process
Nestor Fuertes looked in detail at the process which resulted in the document called "Modelo de extension rural de campesino a campesino", which finished in December 2007. This was carried out by ITDG, reflecting their work in Cajamarca, in the north of Peru. The document looked at the work carried out since 1990, with which a considerable number of persons were trained as extension agents (or promotores).

Analysis of the systematization process
The last one in this group is Jorge Passuni, who also looked in detail at his oen documentation exercise. He wrote about a livestock project in central Peru (in the province of Tarma), with farmers who were receiving training and advice for six months. Its major objective was to increase the output of milk.
