PSCSAWG

Tanzania

The Private Sector and Civil Society Agricultural Working Group (PSCSAWG) sees itself as a forum of civil society organizations and private sector representatives who wants to identify what works and what does not in the efforts to promote agricultural development in Tanzania, and to advocate for best practices in the agricultural sector in this country. It is currently organisaing a Forum for Learning and Experience Sharing.

Naturaleza para Todos

Mexico
Naturaleza para Todos (previously known as Arte Natura) is a small Mexican NGO working in the southern state of Chiapas (in the region known as Meseta Comiteca, near the border with Guatemala). Naturaleza para Todos aims at strengthening the capacities of the local population towards sustainable development, providing specific advice and also organising training workshops and courses. As part of a broad programme, it promotes a low external input agriculture, with the aim of promoting local production, consumption and sale.

China

SEE - Society, Entrepreneur and Ecology, is an environmental protection organization funded by nearly a hundred of famous entrepreneurs in China. SEE is devoted to building up a mode of sustainable development for human and nature, following the harmonious values between ecology benefit, economic benefit and social benefit. SEE starts from the region of Alxa, solving its desertification problem through comprehensive development in the area. At the same time, promotes the sense of responsibilities on environment and society to Chinese entrepreneurs, promoting environmental protection and constant development for enterprises.

A Associação Brasileira de Agroecologia (ABA-Agroecologia) promoveu este seminario de forma integrada ao V Congresso Brasileiro de Agroecologia nos dias 3 e 4 de outubro de 2007. Teve por objetivo colocar em debate e sistematizar aprendizados de experiências de promoção da transição agroecológica por meio da interação de pesquisadores e/ou extensionistas com grupos organizados de agricultores(as). Com o seminario, a ABA-Agroecologia pretendeu criar um ambiente para a reflexão e intercâmbio sobre abordagens metodológicas empregadas por instituições de pesquisa e de assistência técnica e extensão rural em suas ações para a promoção da agroecologia.

Mozambique
Since 1989, VETAID has been working in Mozambique, improving the environment in which animals live and of the people who depend on them for their survival. In October 2007 they have started to document three of their major activities taking place in the provinces of Gaza and Inhambane: the training of "promotores", animal restocking, and the establishment of local pharmacies.

Brazil "Building agreocological knowledge"
Articulacao Nacional de Agroecologia, ANA

The Brazilian Articulação Nacional de Agroecologia sees itself as an open space which brings together networks, organisations and social movements involved in the promotion of agroecology and sustainable rural development, working in the country's different regions. Between the 2nd and the 6th of June, 2006, ANA organised the II Encontro Nacional de Agroecologia in Recife. One of the seminars specifically focused on the process which help to "build agroecological knowledge". The objective was to analyse how the organisations which work around agroecology in Brazil have developed their own practice and their research and extension activities; to look at their results and the difficulties faced, and to document their experiences.

Yemen The preparation of training modules
Tihama Development Authority / Spate Irrigation Network

Yemen

The Tihama Development Authority, based in Hodeida, Yemen, is an autonomous agricultural development agency under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. As part of its activities, and in co-ordination with the Spate Irrigation Network, it is interested in preparing two training modules, articulating the information available and the knowledge of local professionals. These modules will focus on livestock improvement and on the promotion of indigenous trees. Since October 2007, existing information is being documented and enriched through discussions between a local resource persons and the different "experts", a process that includes articulation with narrative and digital archives as well as field verifications.

Isangati Agricutlural Development Organization, IADO

Tanzania
The Isangati Agricultural Development Organisation is a local, not for profit non-governmental organisation located in the Mbeya district, in south-west Tanzania. Between the 4th and the 8th of September, 2006, IADO took part in the documentation workshop organised by VECO Tanzania and ILEIA. This meeting took place in Same, in northern Tanzania. Since then, IADO has been busy documenting their experience in cloning coffee plants with specific characterisitcs, as part of their Clonal Graden Project. An article was published in LEISA 23.2.
