Cooperatives - groups

Historical background: ancestors went to South Africa to get work in gold mining to get wealth and did not work well. Present generation identified coffee producing area well developed
Low production due to CBD and CLR. This led to low incomes.

CBD = chule buni
CLR = kutu ya Majani ya kahawa

In thi splace, both are critical during flowering (September) to harvest (April)
Distribution of fungicides was done by cooperatives

Use of local knowledge to combat CBD and CLR. This worked well but was short lived (utupa: Tephrosia)

There was no previous trial of distribution of CBD/CLR resistant varieties

TACRI started researching on CBD/CLR in 1986; official release was in 2002.

The doumentation is well made but since it is for a wide readership the uses of swahili in the first two columns could have been avoided by having both the swahili and english version. otherwise as a student I found the lecture deliver by Jorge Tevez on this method of documentation good.
